A BIT ABOUT US

Founded by Deb Mitstifer, Positive Equine Partnerships, Inc. (PEP) exists to provide Equine Assisted Psychotherapy for clients in Union and adjoining counties regardless of their ability to pay.

Our horses are the therapists. Due to their intuitive nature and uncanny ability to pick up on non-verbal behavior, horses can provide the breakthrough for persons struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and many other issues. Returning military personnel have found this type of therapy extremely beneficial.

WHAT WE DO

The Positive Equine Partnership (PEP Program) is an equine-assisted therapy program, where especially our military both active and retired can be heard and not judged. The program is designed for children, teens, adults and the elderly, with specialized treatments for depression, anxiety, stress, conflict and behavioral problems, PTSD and self-esteem issues.

The PEP Program was incorporated as a 501c3 organization in May 2018,  Equine therapy is a proven effective form of psychotherapy that is assisted with the use of horses in a controlled arena environment.  Sessions are conducted by two specialists, which follows the EAGALA protocol, and ensures that the therapy is guided by trained and qualified mental health professionals.

What is EAGALA?

The EAGALA Model focuses on strengthening clients to win the unseen battles addressing mental health issues and is built on the premise that it is the client who best determines the kinds of life changes they need to make in order to improve their life. The job of the EAGALA treatment team is to meet the client's goals by engaging the sensitivity of horses and their own unique abilities to intuit humans, in order to help the (human) client understand their process and practice the changes they want to make in a safe, supportive setting.

Under the EAGALA Model, both a licensed, certified Mental Health Professional and a certified Equine Specialist work together collaboratively at all times to assure clients get the therapeutic attention and support they need as they make life changes.  Because all EAGALA sessions are done on the ground - there is no riding involved - this work provides a growing opportunity for horses of all abilities to have a role and purpose. This amazing work benefits the lives of both the horses and humans.
